The practice of Natural Trimming consists of more than just shortening the tone, rounding the hoof wall or lowering the heels. A natural trim simulates the natural wear patterns of hooves formed in the wild and, using specific measurement data, navigates us safely and specifically through the horse's hoof.
More than 1000 wild horse hooves were sampled and documented by Jaime Jackson to understand and map the natural wear patterns of the naturally formed hoof. This extensive research into the wild horse made him and thus us understand how natural wear and tear can positively influence the hoof shape and hoof balance in domestic horses.
With the help of our highly experienced instructors, you will be introduced to the practice of natural trimming and we will teach you to safely communicate with the horse and care for its hooves. Horse & Hoof Course is of course included in this program and ensures that you can prepare for this course from the comfort of your home.
By following this course you will learn to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy, natural and unnatural. You will learn the basic techniques of trimming and will be able to identify and remedy problems in your horse at an early stage.
What do we do?
During this practical weekend you will measure and carefully document various hooves. This way you not only gain insight into hoof health and hoof balance, but you also learn to make the right decisions regarding foot trimming.
During this practical course you will trim several cadaver hooves and we will examine the various pathologies in the hoof. You learn how to work with horses safely and actually go under the horse yourself to experience what it is like to work as a hoof care professional. We will demonstrate both healthy and pathological hoove trimming and discuss the different phases of healing in more detail.
We will of course answer all your questions, discuss and demonstrate where possible the principles of a Paddock Paradise and explain what you can do to improve the condition of hooves in general. No question is unthinkable and we are eager to discuss all aspects of natural and traditional horse keeping in further detail in open dialogue.
